Birchbox Subscription Box – Review – February 2015

I’m pretty sure Birchbox is the subscription box that started it all. I never subscribed to it because I didn’t like the idea of paying $10 for samples. I finally caved because I felt like I wasn’t getting enough mail and it was a pretty cheap box. From what I noticed there isn’t a set list of items that everyone gets, like in POPSUGAR. Which I really hate, I would prefer if all boxes were the same. The cost of the box is $10 and free shipping. You will receive around 5 samples each month!

This box opens up into:

I received some offers for a free mascara with a full sized purchase and $30 off of $75 at Rent The Runway and Also a card detailing everything in the box.

Sumita Color Contrast Eyeliner in Navy Full size $11

One of the reasons why I don’t like sample boxes I never know what the value I’m getting back. Anyway, I usually wear black eyeliner, I’ve never tried another color so I’m a little nervous and unsure if I will ever actually end up using this. But I’m kind of glad I got it so I can experiment with a fun color that is close enough to black that I won’t feel so crazy. This is a soft wax pencil which will leave a rich and long lasting color. It does glide on very soft and the color is very blue.

Cynthia Rowley Beauty Creamy Lip Satin Full Size $20

This sample is so ridiculously tiny its ridiculous that they would even send this out. They put plastic around its insanely difficult to even get off.  The color I received was Heartthrob, which is a sparkly red. This is a long wearing lip satin which leaves your lips moisturized and full of shine.  It goes on as a liquid but then soaks right up into your lips and drys leaving your lips feeling super soft.

Harvey Prince Hello Limited Edition Perfume Full Size $55

I’m not a huge fan of perfume samples but I actually really liked this one. This is a new brand for me, I really like the packaging and its very citrus and floral and perfect for spring.

Number 4 Super Comb Leave In Prep & Protect Full Size $32

I wasn’t really sure what to make of this when I got it, But it turned out to be my favorite item in the box. I’m already considering buying the full size version. It is a sulfate free leave in conditioner that strengthens and nourishes. I love the smell of it too it has a sweet cocoa smell for some reason. I takes your hair super soft and leaves it silky and untangled.

Gilchrist & Soames Spa Therapy Body Lotion Full Size $15

Lotion is never one of those rings that i’m thrilled to get but this one is a nice size and good for traveling. This might come in handy on my upcoming spring break trip. It smells like cucumbers and the sea – just very fresh. It instantly soaks into your skin and leaves you very soft.

So my first Birchbox was fun, I got to experience a lot of new brands. I’m still not fond of the very small sample sizes but I do enjoy being able to have another surpass at my door and try new things. Unfortunately I am unable to give a final value of what I got in return for $10. I think I will continue to try Birchbox for another two months and see my evaluation from there on to see if it is truly worth it. What did you think of this months BirchBox?
